16 Jan04 After
finally receiving a v1.5 console we can now confirm that the X-B.I.T
can be installed on v1.5 consoles without soldering. We are sorry for
the misinformation in the foregoing news post. We actually never had
a v1.5 console in our hands, we were only relying on information from
the public. The LPC port on the v1.5 consoles is no longer providing
GND and 3v3. This is why other modchips need to be connected to the
according points on the mainboard by soldering or using special adapters.
The X-B.I.T is operating with a 5v supply voltage which is still available
on the LPC port. The GND connection gets established by screwing the
X-B.I.T on the board. Please ensure that you only use the bundled screw
and spacer.
We can therefore confirm that the X-B.I.T is a completely solderless
solution for v1.0 - v1.5 consoles as it is from the first day of it's
release. No additional cables or adapters are needed. We removed the
misleading information from the former posts.
13 Jan04 The second wave of shipments
started at the beginning of this week. We would like to thank all the
people waiting so long for their shipments. Thanks for your patience
and your understanding. We also updated the manuals section with the
v1.5 alternative solder points for 5V and GND.
09 Dec03 Due
to an unexpected defect of components we are forced to delay the production
of the new X-B.I.T stocks to the end of December 2003. Unfortunately
this defect was unpredictable. We apologize for the inconvenience and
try to get stuff resolved as good and fast as possible.
09 Oct 03 We
got informed that a few people have problems using the X.B.I.T PC-Flash
software on systems running Windows®XP.
It took a while to investigate that problem but we think we have
found the reason now:
We have tested the PC-Flash software together with the X-B.I.T hardware
successfully on several PCs running Windows®XP. We can confirm that
the problem is not only caused by the operation system itself. The error
occurs when using Windows®XP together with a certain "NEC"
chipset on your PC-mainboard. However this is a problem which is very
difficult to track down since we can not test the software on all the
different combinations of operation systems and chipsets out there.
Due to the large number of different chipset manufacturers it might
turn out that there is another combination of Windows®XP and a chipset
which could cause similar issues.
We tracked down the problem and we will have a patch ready for you latest
on monday the 13th. Unfortunately we will have to reprogram the USB-controller
of the X-B.I.T if you are using Windows®XP together with a chipset
which is causing the PC-Flash software to lock up. If that is the case
please send back your X-B.I.T to your supplier, we will reprogram/exchange
all devices quickly. We are sorry for the inconvenience but please be
aware that we designed our product according to the official USB standards
and that the problem is not caused by us however some PC hardware manufacturers
do not go inline with those standards.
If you are using Windows®XP and if you have problems with the PC-Flash
software please let us know the type of chipset and PC-mainboard you
are using. Rest assured that we will offer support through our distributors
and reslove all issues.
29 Sep 03 The first batch of X-B.I.Ts
got shipped to the distributors on friday the 26th. We updated the manuals
and added a download section for the PC-Flash software. We hope that
we have provided a useful device for the XBox-scene and want to say
a big "Thank you" to all the people supporting us in the last
months. Have fun!

07 Sep 03 We can
finally announce that the confirmed release date for the X-B.I.T is
September 28th 2003. We relalise that the initial information was posted
mid July, but we have spent a lot of time ensuring that the manufacturing
process assures quality products and we also spent a lot of time testing
and enhancing the PC software to make sure that it runs smoothly on
the most recent PC operating systems.
We are first to bring a fully functioning USB flashing system to the
scene, together with an
unprecedented flash memory capacity which will offer greater compatibility
for
future BIOS versions. The X-B.I.T has been fully tested on V1.0-V1.3
XBX's
and found to function perfectly.
We are sure that users will find the PC software easy
and convenient to use. The POGO solution also improves on other manufacturers
designs, by offering spiked pins to connect properly with the D0 bridge.
The pin header solution and pre soldered wire solutions are available
as no extra cost option (included), for experienced installers. Initial
qty's will be limited, but we will manufacture steadily and constantly
throughout the busy period to keep up with huge demand.
05 August 03 We would like to announce some of the changes
and extra features for X-B.I.T. First of all we have changed the design
to a 2MB flash, the banks can be selected by the Dip switches. The configuration
will be saved in the USB controller's memory This means that you can
store and individually select from a BIOS from a total of seven combinations.
Secondly, we have implemented a slick G.U.I in the PC software which
will make flashing the device easy and convenient.
23 Jun 03 We would like to clarify
some of the features and installation of the X-B.I.T. The X-B.I.T has
a 1 MB flash, the banks can be selected by dip switches on the control
panel, which is positioned outside.
This means that you can store and individually select:
2x 512k BIOS or 2 x 256k BIOS + 1 x 512k BIOS or 4 x 256k BIOS.
There are three possible methods of installation, included in the X-B.I.T
package:
1. Solderless POGO solution which works on v1.0, v1.1, v1.2 and v1.3.
2. Soldering solution using a connector with pre-stripped and pre-tinned
wires which connect to the LPC port pads.
3. The Header and Pin solution which is secure and easy, this works
on V1.1,V1.2 and V1.3.
It should also be made clear that the PC transfer software for the
USB flash programming system is included, it is easily installed and
does not require any kind of configuration. Your PC will recognize the
X-B.I.T once its connected because it is a full H.I.D compliant
device.
17 Jun 03 DMS Technologies have come up with a xbx
mod solution for all revisions currently in the market which includes
the latest v1.3. An inbuilt USB HID compliant programming solution handles
transfer of flash files from PC to the device. The X-B.I.T is a completely
solderfree solution. Transfer software and USB-cable are included in
the package.
An external control panel indicates the mods status and provides the
user at means by switch to enable or disable the device and also host
the Mini-USB-Connector for connections to the PC. Flash files are selected
by toggling the switches on the control panel.
The picture shown represents the first working (handsoldered) prototypes,
some changes will be implemented before mass production.
Altough this is DMS Tech's first product in the Xbx scene, we've been
monitoring the demands and the developments and we hope this provides
an overall solution. Resellers should contact us for delivery dates
and pricing.
